Here’s a little DIY project, sewing a hair elastic, ideal for reducing your scrap box. Accessories are cheap and widely available these days, but often they’re not quite what you’re looking for. So make your own and use up your scraps. My sweetheart loves little gifts, and our little one thinks it’s cool to get something homemade.
List of materials
- Fabric remnants measuring at least 25 cm x 7 cm, preferably thin, sturdy cotton or polyester
- Sewing thread
- Elastic band or similar
Instructions

Cut a piece of fabric measuring 30 cm by 7 cm. Or make it longer to create more folds.

Fold the piece of fabric in half with the wrong sides together and iron it.

Stitch along the edge, leaving about 3 cm unstitched at the front and back.

Now turn the hose right side out.

Pin the two ends together, right sides facing…

and stitch.

Fold the now closed ring back and press the edges flat.

Thread a elastic band through; I just tie it into a knot to the right length.
Distribute the elastic evenly in the ring.

Just close the open seam, and the hair tie is ready.

My sweetheart with a new hair tie.
